I believe that humans are creative beings and that we’re at our happiest and most authentic when we make space in our lives for creativity to shine. Most of the things I have learned about creative writing are not from my master’s in journalism or from sitting on the editorial desks of Grazia or the Sunday Times Style, but from years and years of being haunted by the blank page and the blinking cursor and from the gazillion books I’ve read about the craft in my struggle. Although it wasn’t always this way, I am a voracious reader. I am in my happy place when sitting on my sofa hidden by an Eiffel Tower of books and experiencing a certain kind of magic that comes from book rapture. As a result, the question that I am asked the most often by friends (and strangers on Instagram) is What should I read? and How can I read more? Years and years of talking about this have made me a bit of a professional book recommender. I recommend fiction and nonfiction to my best friends, my aunt, my mom, my boyfriend’s mom, my thirteen-year-old sister, my seventy-year-old grandma, and strangers on the internet that I’ve never met.
